Brief Position Description:
Operates the wastewater treatment plant on a daily basis, monitoring all equipment and performing chemical analysis as necessary to assure the effluent released from the plant is clean, environmentally safe and within discharge permitted allowances.
Minimum Qualifications:
Six months as WRF Operator Class III or
High School Diploma for a trainee
Valid Class C Driver’s License and a satisfactory MVR
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities of
Plant Operations and effects of weather conditions on the treatment of wastewater
Federal, state, and local rules and regulations regarding the discharge of wastewater effluent into local streams and lakes
Activated sludge and biological treatment of water
Operating procedures and repair of equipment including presses, aeration basins
Safe procedures and techniques in handling dangerous chemicals
Ability to perform chemical analysis tests and interpret results
Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds
Ability to climb up to forty (40) stairs

Water and Sewer
The City of Fort Oglethorpe is accepting applications for a full time position in the water and sewer department. Experience in operation and maintenance of water and sewer system including pumps, electric motors and controls, fire hydrants, and other water and sewer related equipment preferred but not required. High School diploma or GED required. CDL license preferred but not required. Some job duties include but not limited to meter reading, meter installation, water main repairs, sewer main repairs, sewer pump station operation and maintenance.
The City of Fort Oglethorpe offers retirement, uniforms, annual and sick leave, insurance and a 40-hour work week. Physical, drug screen and driver history required.
