General Nature of Work:
This position assists in the preparation and completion of civil engineering sketches for existing water and sewer lines, drawing architectural floor plans, and producing blue prints and the maintenance of drawing files. This position requires the extensive knowledge in AutoCAD release LT 2005, knowledge of Arc/info; Cad Core Tracer, BDS/SBC91 permit program, ability to work directly with the general public and contractors in a professional manner, knowledge of standard office equipment and procedures, and ability to design and produce layout for any type of printing.

Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or G.E.D., supplemented with course work in basic civil drafting and computer aid drafting.

Minimum of two (2) years experience as a drafter.

Work Schedule: 40 hours/week, permanent weekend night shift
Training- M-F Day shift (6:30 am to 3 pm) for approx. 1st 30 days;
Schedule after training is complete: Friday night, 10:30 pm to 7 am; Saturday and Sunday night, 6:30 pm to 7 am; Monday night 10:30 pm to 7 am.

Primary Job Duties: The purpose of this position is to maintain operational function of both a small water plant and a poultry wastewater treatment facility. Maintain effluent compliance; perform repairs and maintenance as necessary; maintain daily log sheets; adhere to all safety requirements, other duties as required by supervisor or manager.

Experience Requirements: The ideal candidate will posess strong reading, writing, math, and communication skills. A high school diploma or GED is required. Georgia Wastewater Operator's License or Georgia Water Operator's License, any level, is preferred, but not required. Experience in water or wastewater treatment preferred, but other applicable experience such as maintenance, will be considered.

Pay: Depends on experience and certification level; ranges from $10 to $14/hr. Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, paid holidays, etc, available after 90 days. Paid vacation after 1 year.

Responsibilities

Monitors wastewater treatment plant processes and equipment operations per established procedures to ensure proper treatment of wastewater per federal/state regulations. Monitors and inspects plant equipment and operations for safety, maintenance and proper process operations; reports equipment failures or other problems. Collects wastewater samples for laboratory analysis; performs in-house testing of samples. Records instrument readings and test results. Monitors treatment process; makes adjustments as necessary. Operates electrical and mechanical controls which regulate flow of waste materials through various stages of operations. Replace empty hazards chemical containers with full containers. Performs operational adjustments on gauges and controls as necessary. Calibrate PH, chlorine residual and dissolved oxygen meters. Checks chlorine equipment and tanks; changes chlorine cylinders; checks chlorine feed rates and makes adjustments as necessary. Open/closes plant valves or gates to accommodate or route excess wastewater flow. Assist Engineers/Contractors with coordination of equipment startups and shut downs. Monitors pumping of sludge from tanks to digesters. Monitors lift station via computer; operates lift station computer to open and close lift station. Performs various tasks related to wastewater treatment plant operations (which many include draining compressors and pumps, cleaning pumps, opening/closing valves, cleaning tanks, cleaning drying beds, etc.) Performs various cleaning, repair, and maintenance tasks necessary to maintain plant machinery, equipment, tools and grounds in satisfactory condition (which may include inspecting/testing equipment, lubricating pumps, cleaning equipment, cleaning building and work areas, lifting/moving heavy materials, mowing grass, etc.) Operates various machinery, equipment and tools in performance of assigned duties (which may include a tractor, tractor trailer, dump truck, pumps, skimmer, blower, meters, air compressor, conveyor, mower, weed eater, shovel, hoe, mechanic tools, etc.). Maintains logs and records of test results, meter readings, chemical applications, and other data. Prepares and/or completes various forms, reports, checklists, logs, manuals, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards and/or maintains as appropriate. Communicates with supervisor, employees, city departments, contractors, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information; takes and relays messages; responds to requests for service. Responds to routine requests for information or assistance from employees, officials, the public or other individuals. Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge and awareness of applicable laws/regulations; maintains an awareness of new trends/advances in the profession; reads professional literature; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate. Performs other related duties as required. May be required to work rotating shifts. Employees hired in this position are subject to random drug testing according to the City of Albany’s Drug Free Workplace Policy. STARTING SALARY $13.57 – 17.25 PER HOUR, DOQ.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED; supplemented by one (1) to two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving wastewater plant operations; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
