Cross Connection Specialist Full Time

Job Description: The Cross Connection Specialist is responsible for protecting the public water supply from actual or potential contamination sources by ensuring appropriate backflow prevention devices are properly in use by residential, commercial, and industrial customers.

Essential Functions

- Communicates to Cross Connection Specialist any follow-up or enforcement letters needed to maintain program integrity.
- Performs field inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial accounts to identify actual or potential cross connections; assess degree of cross connection hazard; and follows up with customer in writing of required backflow prevention device/assembly.
- Will need to immediately terminate customer’s service if High Degree of Hazard is found without sufficient backflow prevention device/assembly with direction from the Cross Connection Specialist.
- Will disconnect service upon failure of the property owner to comply with the requirements of the company’s Cross Connection Program. A specific procedure is followed of notifying the customer prior to disconnection unless a high hazard is found.
- Responds to emergency situations as necessary.
- Provides assistance to customers with questions regarding the Cross Connection Program.
- Ensures all connections are in compliance with the company’s Cross Connection Programs.

Additional Responsibilities - Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet schedule.
- Schedules work based on priority.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Computer Skills Preferred: Word and Excel.
Other Skills Excellent verbal/written communication skills to customers and staff.
Must be self-motivated.
Education Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Certifications/Licenses Required: Valid drivers license
Preferred: State Certified Backflow Prevention & Water Licenses
Experience Preferred: 1-3 years of experience in water/wastewater utility business or related field.
