General Description and Classification Standards

Employee performs highly skilled maintenance, installation, troubleshooting and repair of electrical systems, lighting and switchgear at the water/wastewater facilities. Electrical work may be performed in a number of areas including elevated tanks and booster stations. Work involves technical application of electrical principles. This is a fully seasoned skilled level capable of independently carrying out most assignments typical of the discipline.

Supervision Received

Works under very general supervision. May work independently or with other skilled or semi-skilled workers with responsibility for completion of assigned tasks.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned.

·         Maintains and troubleshoots electrical/electronic systems and control devices at water/wastewater facilities.

·         Installs, a wide range of instrumentation, control panels, actuators, variable speed drives and other process equipment.

·         Services and operates a variety of electrical tools.

·         Assist with operating and maintain PLC, SCADA systems within the plants or outside stations.

·         Checks and repairs/replaces motors, starters, controllers, etc.

·         Installs new equipment, conduit, wiring, devices and instrumentation controls as approved by supervisor.

·         Maintains electronic control valves, circuit boards, motor control centers, pumps, motors, and complex instrumentations systems.

·         Maintains, calibrates, and adjusts the electronic motors that operate the actuator valves.

·         Performs preventative maintenance on all electrical, pneumatic and electronic equipment.

Selects from multiple procedures and methods to accomplish tasks. May make purchasing or resource allocation decisions within organization guidelines.

Leadership Provided

Provides guidance and training as required to lower level employees.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list.

·         Knowledge of industrial electrical troubleshooting; knowledge of electrical theory and methods, materials, tools, equipment and systems used in the electrical trade; knowledge of applicable state and federal codes and regulations pertaining to the electrical trade; knowledge of computer logic and programming; knowledge of methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment; knowledge of safety precautions to be observed in the maintenance and installation of electronic and mechanical equipment. 

·         Skilled in operating basic hand, hydraulic, and pneumatic tools; skilled in communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

·         Ability to operate and use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely; ability to assemble, install, maintain, and repair electrical apparatuses; ability to make rough sketches; ability to estimate cost, time and materials of electrical work; ability to analyze and respond safely and appropriately to emergency situations; ability to perform preventive maintenance on switch gears and transformers; ability to read and comprehend plans and blueprints as appropriate to trade; ability to perform heavy physical labor; ability to train and direct the work of other classified staff in the area; ability to follow and give oral and written instructions; ability to maintain cooperative working relationships. Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and database application software, is highly desirable.

Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience

·         Completion of Technical or Vocational course of study in Electricity or similar area. 

·         3 years of related experience in a commercial, industrial, or facilities operations setting.

Preferred Education & Experience

·         Associates Degree with a course of study in Electricity or similar area

·         1 year of related experience in a commercial, industrial, or facilities operations setting. 

·         Experience with Medium voltage switchgear would be beneficial.

Licensures and Certifications

·         Class 1 Georgia Electrical Contractor License (Unrestricted License) required. 

·         State of Georgia Commercial Driving License (CDL) preferred.
