This position serves as the Operator in Responsible Charge for The City of Sparta’s 2MGD Class I Micro-Floc (package plant) Water Treatment Facility. The Superintendent manages the day-to-day activity of the plant and associated personnel.
- Supervises Water Plant Staff. Creates work schedules, assigns duties, prepares payroll, performs staff evaluations, and handles personnel issues.
- Provides Training. Assists operators in acquiring the skills necessary for obtaining licensing, scheduling operators for attending classes and seminars.
- Develops Treatment Plan. Provides guidance on treatment processes to optimize plant performance, sets treatment and production goals.
- Manages Laboratory Program. Oversees collection and submittal for testing of TOC, BACT, DBP, CRYPTO, and other Plant and Distribution water samples.
- Ensures Regulatory Compliance. Collects and compiles treatment data, prepares operations reports, interacts with state and federal regulators on issues that may arise.
- Manages Inventories. Maintains adequate stock of treatment process and laboratory chemicals, office supplies, maintenance and repair materials and tools.
- Reports to Utility Director. Additional duties may be assigned by Utility Director.
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Class 1 Water Treatment Plant Operator’s license.
- Knowledge of water treatment methods, processes, and chemistry.
- Knowledge of State and Federal drinking water regulations.
