Full-time Sewer Maintenance/ Construction Supervisor

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for supervising and participating in the work of personnel engaged in the maintenance and construction of the sewer system.

Typical Job Duties:

• Supervises and participates in preventive maintenance at pumping stations.
• Supervises and assists in the installation, repair and fabrication of sewer mains and laterals.
• Instructs and trains employees in the operation of construction equipment and tools.
• Operates a backhoe, bulldozer and other equipment as needed.
• Requisitions needed materials and supplies.
• Dispatches tools and materials to job sites.
• Maintains construction equipment and tools; performs minor equipment repairs.
• Investigates and resolves customer complaints related to the sewer system.
• Prepares daily maintenance reports.
• Performs related duties.

Knowledge required by the position:

• Knowledge of the materials and methods used in the construction, maintenance and repair of sewer lines.
• Knowledge of city codes and ordinances related to sewer construction.
• Knowledge of the repair and maintenance of pumps, electrical motors, gasoline engines and control valves.
• Knowledge of departmental and safety policies and procedures.
• Skill in supervision and management.
• Skill in the location of underground utilities.
• Skill in the operation of a variety of tools and equipment.
• Skill in the completion of detailed reports.
• Skill in Interpersonal relations.
• Skill in oral and written communication

Minimum Qualifications

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
• Sufficient experience to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years experience or service.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a state certified license for Wastewater Collection System Operator.
