General Description

 

SUMMARY:
 Performs skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of pumps and mechanical equipment at a water or wastewater treatment plant, pumping station, deep well site, lift station or booster station.

 

Work assignments are varied and employees must be knowledgeable in general mechanical maintenance / repair and hydraulic principals. Work is performed under the general supervision of a O&M Supervisor

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position.   • Repairs mechanical equipment such as pumps, valves, motors, sludge removal machines, centrifuges, chemical feeders, blowers, coolers, air compressors, and heating equipment in a water or wastewater treatment plant; reclamation plants, groundwater wells, pumping stations, lift stations and reservoirs;
  • Repairs horizontal and vertical drive centrifugal pumps;
  • Diagnoses equipment problems and determine repairs needed;
  • Performs maintenance tasks for treatment plant systems and sub-systems associated with: bar screens, grit collectors, chemical feed systems, basins, digesters, and sludge handling equipment;
  • Performs primary maintenance tasks at remote facilities associated with booster stations, sewer lift stations, pressure reducing valves, metering stations, tank sites, and distribution chlorination stations;
  • Assists in unloading, transferring, storing, and using various hazardous chemicals;
  • Responds to emergency call outs, troubleshoots problems and takes actions to ensure plant, station integrity;
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance;
  • Demonstrates superior seamless customer service, integrity, and commitment to innovation, efficiency, and fiscally responsible activity.

EXPERIENCE:
Requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience in related trade. Experience in the industry is strongly preferred.

 

 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EQUIPMENT & OTHER:
 

  • Basic arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and basic algebra.
  • Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to mechanical maintenance and repair work, including lockout procedures and confined space entry procedures.
  • Methods, practices, tools, and materials used in maintaining, repairing or constructing water/wastewater treatment plant and booster/lift station equipment.
  • Computerized maintenance management systems and distributed control systems.
  • Email, spreadsheet, and word processing software.

Skill in:

  • Use and care of common hand tools and special tools and equipment used in the maintenance of large complex machinery and equipment.
  • Use of precision measuring equipment such as micrometers and dial indicators

 

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:
Active driver’s license required at time of hire. Driver’s license must be maintained as a condition of continued employment. Employee will be required to operate company vehicles. Employee must maintain a driving record which meets the standards of the company insurance policy. Subject to company needs, employee may be required to obtain OSHA 10 or 30hr Safety Certification and maintain current certification as a condition of continued employment.  May also be required to obtain CDL class Licensure.

 

 

SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Acts as a technical resource for apprentice level electrician including training, demonstrating, and answering questions. Also acts as resource for apprentice level electrician regarding proper methods, materials, and procedures involved with minor electrical repairs and maintenance.

High exposure to bruises and cuts due to working with tools and equipment. High exposure to self to repetitive motion stress due to work with fingers and hands. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and outdoor weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; and vibration. Subject to company needs, employee may be required to work in confined spaces, as defined by company practices and procedures. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

 

MENTAL FUNCTIONS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to compare, analyze, communicate, coordinate, instruct, compute, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, and negotiate. Frequently required to copy, synthesize, and compile.
