Mason Supervisor
General Description and Classification Standards
Performs skilled masonry work. This is a "foreman" level position with a formally designated team of skilled employees, either in one or multiple skilled specialties. Duties may include, but are not limited to: building, altering and repairing brick, stone, tile or ceramic structures and surfaces.
Supervision Received
Works under very general supervision. May work independently or with other skilled or semi-skilled workers with responsibility for completion of assigned tasks.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned.
· Supervises, prioritizes, plans, and schedules work orders to ensure work is completed efficiently by work crew.
· Prepares masonry jobs estimates; reads blueprints; calculates material costs; evaluates staffing needs; estimates completion dates.
· Assists with the completion of more complex work orders to repair, maintain and alter buildings, retaining walls and other brick or stone edifices; mixes mortar; lays bricks and stones and/or concrete sidewalks; makes and repairs steps.
· Assists with the completion of more complex work orders to patch and/or replace brick or stonework chimneys.
· Assists with the completion of more complex work orders to install and repair tile floors and/or walls.
· Performs or supervises carpentry work incidental to masonry work; plasters ceilings and/or walls.
· Picks up requisitioned tools and materials from vendors.
Decision Making
May make purchasing or resource allocation decisions within organization guidelines.
Leadership Provided
Has formal supervisory authority over work group (typically at least 4-5 employees) to include discipline, performance management, scheduling, training, etc.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list.
· Knowledge of: principles and practices of customer service; of principles and practices of supervisory methods; of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the trade; of the standard practices, processes, tools, equipment, and materials of masonry and plastering.
· Skill in: the use of a computer and standard business software.
· Ability to: operate equipment in manner that supports safety of work crew and general public; to interact with internal and external contacts in a professional manner; to maintain records and make simple reports.
Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience
· High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
· 5 years' of experience in the masonry and/or plastering trade
· 1 year of supervisory experience.
Preferred Education & Experience
· Completion of Technical or Vocational course of study in the masonry trade
· 5 years' of experience in the masonry and/or plastering trade,
· 1 year of supervisory experience.
Licensures and Certifications
Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class B
