Job Description

Purpose

Performs a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of a water/wastewater treatment plant including maintenance of equipment, quality control/testing and day-to-day activities on an assigned shift.  This position typically holds or is working towards an intermediate level water/wastewater treatment certification.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Learns and gains skills involving the maintenance of equipment and servicing work in the plant
  • Operates treatment facilities to control flow and processing of water/wastewater, sludge, and effluent
  • Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control, starts and stops pumps, engines and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes
  • Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels
  • Observes and reports abnormalities to plant Manager.
  • Maintains shift log and records meter and gauge readings
  • Collects samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analyses (including weekends)
  • Performs routine maintenance functions and custodial duties
  • Maintains plant grounds as directed by Manager,
  • Keeps the field and wetland nozzles clean and in good working order
  • Cleans the flumes and weirs of vegetation and mud to maintain good flow
  • Understands and carries out oral and written directions
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

High School Diploma or GED with ability to acquire Class III Water or Wastewater License within 12 months.  Must have normal or correctable color vision and a valid driver’s license.
