Jacobs Engineering Group is seeking Water Treatment Plant Operator for an existing facility in Jackson County, GA (10 miles NW of Athens, GA). Certified Water Treatment Operators will participate in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment facility. The facilities utilize conventional flocculation, sedimentation and filtration treatment trains to achieve water quality objectives.

Duties of the Treatment Plant Operators include:

• Operation of surface water treatment facility employing conventional flocculation, sedimentation and filtration technologies; Operate surface water plant in accordance with GA DNR EPD regulations.
• Responsible for the safe, compliant, and economic operation of systems in the Water utility area
• Responsible for decisive and timely action in response to production, utilities and environmental upsets
• Ability to effectively communicate with the sites integrated areas
• Ability to troubleshoot system problems and make necessary corrective action steps during the shift and maintain process and system operation with minimal supervision
• Perform Preventative Maintenance; Use SCADA system to monitor and control plant operation and distribution; Inspect / Calibrate water quality (utilizing instrumentation, turbidimeters, pH, particle counters etc.)
• Operate and troubleshoot systems to ensure proper amount of chemical treatments and compliance with regulatory regulations. Collect samples and perform routine and special request laboratory tests and analysis
• Monitor system gauges and meters, start and stop equipment, operate valves to route and control flows, determine and set proper chemical dosage and flow rates. Monitor Operations of surface water intake and raw water pump equipment, and solids facilities
• Maintain and complete daily log books, bench test sheets and maintenance records
• Perform routine housekeeping and site maintenance
• Work in both hot and cold environments, inside and outdoors.  Ability to move throughout the entire plant site & operating areas including climbing ladders and stairs, to access elevated sources for inspection and operational purposes.
• Assist with job safety analysis / safe work permitting and bench top analysis as needed
• Ability to work effectively within a team environment with internal and external personnel & regulatory agencies.

 

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or equivalency with course work in Chemistry, or any equivalent combination of experience and training
• Previous experience as operator of a public water treatment facility is preferred
• Must be able to obtain a GA operator’s license for water treatment within 6 months of hire; Water Treatment Class “I” or “II” (Class I preferred but not required).
• Willing to work any shift requested by supervisor (12-hour, 2-shift per day)
• Skills to perform equipment checks, maintenance and calibration
• Ability to read, write and perform basic math calculations
• Computer experience in Excel, Word & other software
• Understanding of the procedure to clean and maintain conventional filter systems
• Knowledge of the storage and feed characteristics of water treatment chemicals
• Able to perform sampling requirements; Knowledge of disinfection dose and checks
• Experience with log book entries and related record keeping
• General understanding of SCADA layout and controls
• Experience working independently with functional guidance rather than direct assignments
• Experience with Job Safety Analysis
• Valid Driver’s License
