JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Wastewater Plant Operator
The City of McDonough is accepting applications for a full-time Wastewater Plant Operator. Class III certification is preferred but will consider a Trainee who has mechanical and electrical skills.
Major duties: Closely monitors wastewater treatment facility and process using SCADA system for optimum performance and makes recommendations for changes; Inspects for proper operation; pumps, motors, valves, piping systems, backflow preventers, air compressors, sludge thickening equipment, chemical feed equipment, odor control systems, sludge handling and moving equipment, and utility and process wastewater systems; Uses hand tools and power tools to perform maintenance on plant equipment, including but not limited to drill press, grinders, all hand tools, welders, and cutting torches; Operates chemical feed systems and assists in the unloading of chemical deliveries; Collects and reviews operational data for the Activated Sludge Process, primary process, and solids handling; Coordinates special tasks such as DO profiles, special sampling (WET, Bio-solids, and thickening); Trains in the operation of press dewatering;
Sample of required knowledge, skills and abilities required:
- operate hand and power tools to perform maintenance on plant equipment (including but not limited to drill press, grinders, all hand tools, welders, and cutting torches);
- routine mechanical repairs;
- read and interpret documents such as charts, graphs, gauges;
- detect flaws and defects in the operation of treatment equipment and initiate proper corrective action;
- add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals;
- work additional shifts when necessary;
- maintain all required licenses and certifications required by the position;
- lift up to 80 pounds on occasion;
- work in inclement weather.
Minimum qualifications: high school diploma or equivalent; some experience in wastewater treatment preferred; Class III Wastewater Operator’s certificate issued by the Georgia State Board of Examiners (or ability to obtain within one year); SCADA training or experience preferred; valid Georgia Driver’s License; satisfactory MVR; pass pre-employment physical and drug and alcohol test; acceptable criminal history; equivalent combination of education and experience.
