Chief Wastewater Treatment Operator

Salary Range- $47,289 annually ($22.74/hr.) - $65,753 annually ($31.61/hr.)

 

The City of Hartwell is seeking a Chief Water Treatment Plant Operator for its 1.75 MGD facility. See Description and Requirements Below.

JOB SUMMARY

 

This position is responsible for directing the operations of the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's licenses issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Possession of a Georgia Certified Class I license for wastewater treatment.

 

 

MAJOR DUTIES

 

  • Plans, assigns, directs, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel.
  • Compiles and submits a variety of reports, including reports to the Georgia Environmental Protection Division.
  • Collects or directs the collection of wastewater samples for laboratory analysis; prepares and submits related reports.
  • Performs plant operation duties as required; makes operational adjustments to meet permit requirements.
  • Ensures plant operations are in compliance with state and federal regulations and with safe work guidelines.
  • Coordinates and delivers safety training.
  • Creates, files, and maintains, required state and federal regulatory records.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and calibrates equipment as needed; maintains pumps, filters, and changes chlorine cylinders.
  • Supervises and participates in lift station maintenance and repairs.
  • Operates belt press as needed.
  • Monitors, maintains, orders, and replenishes wastewater treatment plant inventory, including treatment chemicals, laboratory equipment, parts, and other supplies needed for plant operation.
  • Provides training to operators; ensures staff meets required training and certification requirements.
  • Directs and participates in the maintenance of plant facilities and grounds.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

 

  • Knowledge of the operating procedures of the city’s wastewater treatment plant.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for the safe operation of a wastewater treatment plant.
  • Knowledge of chemical application in the wastewater treatment process.
  • Knowledge of SCADA system operation.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of wastewater sampling and laboratory analysis techniques.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in the preparation of required reports.
  • Skill in the planning, directing, and supervising the work of personnel.
  • Skill in planning and meeting deadlines.
  • Skill in compiling and analyzing data.
