JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for participating in the operations of the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Monitors treatment process and makes necessary adjustments as indicated by current conditions.
- Monitors performance of machinery and equipment used to control the treatment process; makes process control decisions.
- Prepares inspection sheets, logs, and flow charts; maintains records; enters data to computer.
- Tends pumps, blowers, centrifuges, dry and wet chemical feeders, aerators, and other equipment; reads and records effluent flow meter readings.
- Inspects and clean filters, tanks, floating aerators, clarifier weirs, and bar screens.
- Changes chlorine cylinders.
- Collects wastewater samples for standard tests.
- Adds chemicals as necessary.
- Determines and performs sludge wasting from aeration basin and aerobic digester.
- Assists in belt press operations.
- Performs maintenance and repair of equipment, including lift station equipment.
- Maintains sludge drying beds.
- Maintains plant facilities and grounds.
- Ensures the proper operation and maintenance of sewage pumping stations.
- Operates backhoe to load trucks with solid waste; hauls sludge to disposal areas.
- Responds to after-hours emergencies.
- Assists water department with clogged and broken lines at supervisor’s request.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of the operating procedures of the city’s wastewater treatment plant.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for the safe operation of a wastewater treatment plant.
- Knowledge of chemical application in the wastewater treatment process.
- Knowledge of SCADA system operation.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of wastewater sampling and laboratory analysis techniques.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Skill in the preparation of required reports.
- Skill in planning and meeting deadlines.
- Skill in compiling and analyzing data.
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years experience or service.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's licenses issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Possession of an appropriate state-certified class II or I license for wastewater treatment.
