Water Distribution Technician

FULL TIME JOB OPPORTUNITY

The City of Japer is taking applications for a Water Distribution Technician.
This position performs duties related to installing, maintaining, repairing, servicing, enlarging and re-locating water and sewer lines.

JOB SUMMARY
Duties consist of installing maintaining and repairing water mains and service connections; installing, flushing and repairing fire hydrants; tapping water mains; installing tapping sleeves, valves and curb boxes; operating and repairing water pumps; clearing and removing litter and debris from storm drains; performing asphalt repairs and landscaping; maintaining city facilities and properties; assisting in the maintenance of department tools and equipment; assisting in storm clean-up activities; responding to after-hours emergencies and other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of techniques, equipment and procedures used in the installation, maintenance and repair of a water distribution system.
Knowledge of city and department policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the geography of the city, including street names and locations.
Skill in problem solving
Skill in oral and written communication
Ability to understand mechanical problems and to use common hand tools and other related equipment
Ability to work independently and efficiently
Ability to adjust work schedule to perform necessary duties

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or G.E.D.
Georgia Driver’s License
