WATER TREATMENT OPERATOR I, II, III, or TRAINEE

The City of Sparta is seeking a licensed Water Treatment Operator. In lieu of licensed candidates, the City will consider the placement of a trainee. Duties include conducting analyses in a laboratory setting, calculating chemical dosages and adding/adjusting chemical feeds, managing water influent and effluent flows, maintaining clear and accurate records, and the operation of computers, pumps, and hand tools.
Successful candidates will possess a high school diploma or GED, an active telephone (in order to be reached in emergency situations), and a valid driver’s license. If the candidate does not possess a valid State of Georgia issued Water Treatment Operator’s license, that license must be obtained within one year of employment.
This position is full-time, requires working a rotating schedule, and will include holidays and night shifts. The presence of certain chemicals in this facility requires attention to detail and the proper usage of protective wear. Operators must be able to ascend and descend stairs and ladders, lift objects up to 70lbs, and be able to manipulate hands and fingers. Legible handwriting is a must.
The following qualifications may award preference during the selection process:
- Possession of an Associate’s Degree or higher
- A familiarity with chemistry and/or water treatment principles
- Experience in facilities maintenance, such as the repair and maintenance of pumps, motors, HVAC, and electrical equipment.
