Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

POSITION SUMMARY:

Participates in the operation of a water supply treatment plant that treats and pumps water for domestic and industrial use, or in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant that processes wastewater for water pollution abatement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Participates in the operation and maintenance of a water, wastewater treatment plant, other facility, and/or distribution system and may assist in the training of entry level operators.
• Inspects plant for proper operation of plant equipment and processes.
• Operates solids processing equipment.
• Collects samples for analysis; performs field analysis and other laboratory tests.
• Rotates equipment; changes and connects chlorine equipment; operates lime slaking equipment, operates load lugger trucks, monitors and adjusts chemical feed equipment.
• Monitors computer and notifies supervisor of any problems.
• Performs housekeeping around plant and building facilities.
• Records data and information as needed.
• Assists with the procedure for septic tank truck dumping.
• Answers telephone; takes and relays messages.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or GED; two years of experience in the operation of water or wastewater treatment plant.  Must possess a valid Georgia driver's license appropriate to the level of equipment operated.  Must possess a State of Georgia Class III Water Treatment System Operator or a Class III Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator license, and maintain such license for the duration of employment in this classification.  A combination of training and experience will be considered.
