Public Works General Maintenance & Repair Worker

 

Summary of Position:
 
Perform general maintenance & repair duties relating to City Streets, Water, & Sewer Operations.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 
The following duties are normal for this position.  The omission of a specific statement from the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Lawn Maintenance of City Property & Rights of Way
• General Maintenance & Repairs of City Buildings
• Meter Reading
• Utility Customer Needs – New Service, Disconnections, etc
• Assist in Water/Sewer Line & Meter Installation, Maintenance, and Repair
• Street Maintenance and Repair

• Daily Maintenance & Operation of Water & Sewer Systems
• Ability to operate Tractor, Backhoe, Bucket Truck, Dump Truck, Lawn Mower, Weedeater, Edger, and other small power tools.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications:

• Strong communication skills.
• Working knowledge of machinery, equipment and tools. 
• Must be able to work effectively with others
• Employee is exposed to the outside temperatures/elements.
• Must be available for On-Call Nights & Weekends.
• Must be able to lift heavy objects.
• Performs other related duties as required.
• Must have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent.
• Experience in construction and public works is preferred, but not mandatory.
• A criminal background and drug test will be required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.

Job Salary & Benefits:

Full-Time Position M-F w/On-Call Nights & Weekends required

Salary range $10.00 - $16.00 hourly (based on experience).  “Non-Exempt” Position 

Normal working days of Monday – Friday w/On-Call Nights & Weekends

Paid Holidays, Vacation, Personal & Sick Time
