Position Summary

Newnan Utilities is currently seeking a Utility Systems Engineering Manager to lead the Water-Wastewater engineering team. This position is responsible for setting a positive example for employees, representing Newnan Utilities in a positive and professional manner, developing engineering standards, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards for the water and wastewater industry, providing technical data and coordination assistance, special project coordination and more!

 

Essential Functions

  • Supervise, direct, support and evaluate assigned staff
  • Organizes, prioritizes and assigns work activities in order to meet objectives
  • Ensure assigned staff have the proper resources needed to complete assigned work; monitor status of work in progress and inspects completed work
  • Assists with employee concerns or problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate
  • Manage the process of developing, implementing and maintaining standards that are current with state regulations including state approved Delegated Status requirements
  • Review completed inspections and evaluations of NU infrastructure to plan for future growth and to determine areas for improvement and or replacement
  • Recommend and implement department goals and objectives; establish operational standards and methods; develops and implements related policies and procedures for operational improvement
  • Review and/or upgrade staff training programs to ensure acquisition and maintenance of technical skills
  • Stays current on legal compliance and trends in the industry and is adaptable to changing rules and regulations with the ability to implement changes as needed
  • Prepare and manage annual department budget, estimating equipment and supply needs based on trends and planned activities
  • Complete and submit annual reporting to State and Federal agencies pertaining to engineering such as development plans for new construction and re-development
  • Oversees the Utility Systems group including locates, backflow program, and GIS systems
  • Recommends improvements to system efficiencies and reliability
  • Liaison between developers, Engineers, Contractors, local, state, and Federal agencies
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 8 – 10 years’ experience in field of water or wastewater operations; required
  • 5 – 7 year’s supervisory/project management experience; required
  • Valid GA Driver’s License; required
  • Project Management Professional Certification; preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science or Biology; preferred

Software, Technical & Other Skills

  • Proficient computer skills including engineering design programs: Automated Mapping/Facilities Management/GIS, SCADA, SewerGEMS, WaterGEMS & AutoCad
  • Knowledge of water, sewerage, electrical distribution systems and practices
  • Understanding of DOT permitting and state rules and regulations
  • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Strong technical, analytical and project management skills
