CITY OF MILLEDGEVILLE                       JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION:                                 Water Plant Operators

(All Levels: Trainees, Class III, II and Class I)

  

DEPARTMENT:                          Water Treatment Plant #2

SCHEDULE: Full-Time – On Call Duty Work Required

                                                   

SALARY:                                     Negotiable – Dependent upon certification and experience.

 

JOB ANNOUNCEMENT:             June 18, 2020 - Until Filled

 

JOB SUMMARY:

             This position is responsible for assisting in the operation of a water treatment plant.  Duties include monitoring treatment processes and making necessary adjustments as indicated by current conditions.   Inspects plant equipment and monitors performance of machinery and equipment used to control the treatment process.  Prepares inspection sheet logs and flow charts; maintains records and prepares reports as required.  Collects water samples and performs standard tests such as ph, chlorine, fluoride, iron, and other tests to control quality.  Receives, logs, and stores incoming chemical and supply shipments. Maintains buildings and grounds, including cutting of grass.

 

 KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Knowledge of water treatment processes
  • Knowledge of mathematics, chemistry, hydraulic principals, and computer skills
  • Knowledge of handling and containing hazardous chemicals such as chlorine and fluoride acid
  • Knowledge of laboratory procedures and safety procedures.

 

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:      

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • State of Georgia Drivers License
  • Possession of or ability to obtain State of Georgia Class III Water Operator Certification within one year after hire date.
  • Ability to operate and maintain plant equipment and machinery
  • Ability to climb ladders and perform work in high places
  • Skill in the use of self-contained breathing apparatus and related equipment
  • Skill in oral and written communications
  • Ability to follow all required safety procedures
  • Willing to travel out of town with some overnight stay
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds over head
