JOB TITLE:                WATER PLANT OPERATOR “A”, “B” or “C”/GAS CONTROL

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under occasional supervision, operates the CPW water plant to produce potable water that meets or exceeds the requirements of the SC Department of health and Environmental control (DHEC) and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in sufficient quantities to meet the demands of the system served.  Monitors and adjusts gas usage as necessary to ensure compliance with transporter and supplier contacts and to maintain adequate pressure to sustain the gas distribution system.  Receives, responds to and/or dispatches calls regarding problems related to water, electric, and gas utilities.  Performs related technical work as required.  Reports to the Water Plant Superintendent. 

Education and/or training requirements: 

Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by three to five years of progressively responsible experience in water plant operations, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.  Must possess a Class “A”, Class “B” or Class “C” Water Plant Operator Certificate.

JOB GRADE: Grade 13, 15 or 17 ($42,202 – 70,932)
