JOB TITLE: Water Treatment Plant Maintenance Mechanic/Operator
DEPARTMENT: Water, City of Cartersville
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for repair/maintenance of various machinery, equipment, and other installations/facilities of the Water Treatment Plant. This position also is responsible for plant operations as directed/assigned.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Perform preventive maintenance on all WTP equipment, machinery, and installations, including cleaning/lubricating pumps, changing filters, cleaning basins, etc.
- Repair/replace motors, pumps, drive shafts/belts, and other plant facilities as necessary.
- Maintain maintenance records for all plant equipment/facilities using electronic/software applications and/or manual documentation.
- Schedule all repair, installation, and preventive maintenance in coordination with plant superintendent and other plant personnel.
- Purchase/Maintain inventory of parts, tools, maintenance materials/equipment.
- Perform duties/responsibilities of WTP operator as assigned/scheduled by plant superintendent.
- Supervise/Direct plant personnel as assigned by plant superintendent.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
- Knowledge of repair and maintenance techniques for horizontal centrifugal and vertical turbine pumps, diaphragm type chemical feeders, PVC piping, diesel engine emergency generators, electrical motors and drives.
- Advanced knowledge of electrical circuits, interpreting single-line diagrams, motor control centers, and testing electrical circuits ranging from control low voltage (5v, 4-20mA) to medium voltage motors (2400v, 1200A).
- Advanced knowledge of pumping systems including pumps, bearings, flange connections, hydraulic control valves, electric valve actuators, and motor controls.
- Knowledge of the drinking water treatment system operations.
- Knowledge of basic mathematics; Skill in maintaining accurate and thorough records.
- Demonstrated knowledge of general mechanical operations, especially in a water treatment operation.
- Knowledge of pneumatic equipment including rotary screw and piston compressors, solenoid valves, gauges, transmitters and cylinder-type valve actuators.
- Knowledge of City and departmental policies and procedures or ability to learn.
- Skill in repairing and maintaining low voltage electrical equipment including basic knowledge of PLC based controls.
- Skill in interpreting technical manuals for equipment installation, operation and maintenance purposes.
- Skill and sufficient dexterity to use hand tools and testing equipment.
- Skill in verbal and written communication and the ability to translate complicated technical terminology to others as necessary to perform maintenance tasks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 3 years of experience providing industrial maintenance support for drinking water or similar treatment facility
- Documented experience and training for industrial electrical maintenance, licensed electrician preferred.
- Ability to obtain GA Water Treatment Plant Operator’s certification within 18 months of hire. Current license preferred
- Flexibility to work occasional after hours and call-in assignments
