ADVERTISEMENT – ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN

Introduction:

The Jackson County Water and Sewerage Authority (JCWSA) in Jefferson, Georgia currently seeks qualified applicants to fill the newly created Engineering Technician position.  JCWSA is a rapidly growing, medium-sized utility serving approximately 9100 water customers and 1450 sewer customers.  Jefferson Georgia lies approximately 50 miles northwest of Atlanta.  In 2017, Jefferson City Schools ranked #1 in the state of Georgia for College and Career Ready performance indicators.  Jefferson City and Jackson County offer a unique combination of rural living and outstanding schools with easy access to a major metropolitan area.

Under the direction of the Authority Engineer, the Engineering Technician assists in technical engineering work in the areas of drafting, land surveying, plan review, bidding, construction management/administration, construction inspection, and encroachment permitting.  Additionally, the Engineering Technician will perform related work as assigned by the Authority Engineer.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in civil engineering technology or related discipline, with one-year experience in the design and construction of water and sanitary sewer projects; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position. 
  • Experience and/or education in CAD drafting using AutoCAD software.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of computer software and mobile devices commonly used in a water/sewer engineering environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience and/or education in CAD drafting using Autodesk Civil 3D, and ArcGIS.
  • Experience with water and/or sewer modeling software.
  • Land surveying field and office experience, including the use of GPS and conventional land surveying equipment.
  • Project management and/or construction administration experience.
  • Experience with GDOT encroachment permits, and associated GDOT requirements.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering drafting and design as related to water and sewer utility systems.
  • Experience with construction contracts, and civil engineering technical specifications.

 

Physical Requirements:

The majority of work will be performed in an office environment; occasionally work will be performed under adverse conditions such as in traffic, around heavy construction equipment, and in inclement weather. Visual acuity to read and interpret drawings, plans and specifications is required on a regular basis. At times, the ability to move equipment weighing up to forty (40) pounds may be required.  As an exempt employee, work may be required during normal working and non-working hours.

Salary/Benefits:

Position offers a minimum starting salary of $52,000 per year (commensurate with experience), excellent benefits, opportunities for additional training/advancement, working in a friendly/promotive environment.
