Position Title: Water / Wastewater Treatment Operator
Department: Water / Wastewater (City of Washington)
Starting Salary: $31,987.96 up depending on qualifications
Job Summary: Operates, repairs, and maintains the water/wastewater treatment plant’s facilities.
Major Duties:
- Operates treatment facilities to control flow and processing of water/wastewater, sludge, and effluent
- Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels
- Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings
- Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control
- Starts and stops pumps, engines, and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes
- Maintains shift log and records meter and gauge readings
- Takes samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analyses
- Performs routine maintenance functions and custodial duties
- Makes operating decisions in absence of supervisory personnel
- Performs other duties as required
Knowledge Required by the Position:
- Basic familiarity of the principles and practices of water/wastewater treatment plant operations; operating principles of valves, pumps, and motors; principles and methods of bacteriological and chemical sewer analyses; effects and problems of industrial waste in water/wastewater treatment processes, and safe work practices.
- A well-organized and self-directed individual who is a team player.
- A strategic thinker with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus.
- An intelligent and articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization
Education: 1 to 2 years’ experience in operating wastewater/water treatment plants, High School diploma or equivalent, Operator certification at a level required by the State and the project preferred.
