General Description and Classification Standards

Individuals in this position provide leadership and supervision to a group of assigned staff. Duties include, but are not limited to: organizing and preparing work tasks, performing troubleshooting, performing field checks, and making decisions regarding the daily quality assurance of Water Distribution such as customer service and employee workload.

This is a fully seasoned skilled level capable of independently carrying out most assignments typical of the discipline. This level would be attainable by multiple incumbents in a work group (not necessarily by all), but would not be an "automatic" promotional level.

Supervision Received

·         Some work is required to be completed independently and as part of a team of supervisors including direct supervisor; communicates with manager on a daily basis.

·         Normally receives guidance regarding overall mission, scheduling, unusual priorities, etc.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned.

·         Organizes and prepares the work tasks for each inspector and employee daily.

·         Reviews work activities, reports and other documentation and provides direction on more complex issues.

·         Performs troubleshooting steps when issues arise.

·         Performs random field checks to ensure assignments are completed correctly.

·         Trains and prepares new employees to perform inspection duties.

Decision Making

Decisions are made daily as is relates to the following: customer service, employee work load, and troubleshooting issues. Authorized to set work methods, timetables, performance standards, etc.

Leadership Provided

May supervise up to fifteen (15) staff members; most will report directly to this position. Position MUST have formal supervisory authority over work group (typically at least five to six employees) to include discipline, performance management, scheduling, training, etc.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list.

·         Knowledge of meter reading and meter installation.  Knowledge of computer and key functions.  Knowledge of administrative and safety requirements for the assigned area.

·         Excellent communication skills as this position will have regular customer interaction.  Skill in performing all typical tasks associated with the area of assignment and in adapting to new situations or configurations.  Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills in providing direction to a group of skilled employees.

·         Ability to read maps and follow directions.  Ability to train and manage a group of skilled and semi-skilled employees in carrying out technical, maintenance, or construction activities.

Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience

·         High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).

·         5 years' experience in the construction and/or maintenance of sewer/water facilities

·         1 year of supervisory experience.

Preferred Education & Experience

·         Completion of technical course in appropriate area

·         6-8 years' of directly related experience.

Licensures and Certifications

Valid State of Georgia driver’s license.
